COVID-19 - the new normal
Debbie Howton Driver Training is committed to ensuring a safe environment for learning at all times, but since the outbreak of Covid-19 I have had to implement a number of changes to the way we work. This page will provide all the information you need to know about driving lessons during the Covid-19 pandemic.

What will Debbie Howton Driver Training do to keep me safe?

  1. Additional gaps will be left between every lesson ensuing sufficient time to thoroughly clean the interior of the vehicle. All standard controls inside the car will be cleaned with an anti viral and anti bacterial sanitiser spray, which is formulated to kill and inhibit both bacteria and viruses for up to 5 hours.
  2. Debbie Howton will wear a face covering during lessons in order to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus.
  3. A sanitised box will be available to contain any small personal items such as wallet/purse, keys, mobile etc.
  4. Debbie Howton will notify you in advance if she has been in contact with anybody who is presenting symptoms, or is presenting symptoms herself.

What will you be required to do?

  1. Allow Debbie Howton before getting into her vehicle to check your temperature with an infrared thermometer to ensure it is normal.
  2. You’ll be asked to sanitise your hands as soon as you enter the vehicle.
  3. You will be required to wear a face covering for the full duration of your lesson.
  4. You must notify Debbie Howton as soon as possible if you believe you have come into contact with anybody who is presenting symptoms of the virus. If you are presenting any symptoms you should cancel your lesson and the late-cancellation charge will be waived. Please note that you will not be able to take a driving lesson for 14 days following a cancellation for suspected Covid-19 symptoms or contact.

How will my driving lesson differ from normal?

Because we are working in an enclosed space there will be some changes to the way your lesson is carried out. These changes are designed specifically to reduce the chances of exposure to the virus and will not affect your learning.

  1. All lessons will last for 2 hours.
  2. Please pay by bank transfer for all lessons.
  3. Where possible the windows will be open during lessons to increase the air flow. Please ensure you dress accordingly as this may mean the vehicle is chilly on cooler days.
  4. Debbie Howton will be unable to share visual aids, pens etc and be minimising contact with you for safety.
  5. Where possible discussions and debriefs will take place outside the vehicle to reduce the amount of talking in an enclosed space.
  6. Every effort will be made to offer a lesson to all customers each week, but priority will be given to those with test dates booked to ensure they are fully prepared for test.

Change to Terms and Conditions during Covid-19

The late cancellation policy requiring 48 hours notice will be waived to cover;
  1. If you believe you have been in contact with someone showing symptoms within the last 14 days.
  2. If you become unwell and are showing symptoms or if anyone in your household is showing symptoms within the last 14 days.

IMPORTANT

It goes without saying that learning to drive is secondary to everyone’s health. Despite my best attempts to reduce the possibility of contracting Covid-19 through the measures above, I cannot guarantee a 100% safe environment.

You must consider your own personal circumstances when choosing to book your lessons. For example, if you live in a household with any vulnerable family or friends, or are in a bubble with anyone over 70 years of age, then you should consider the risks involved and make the decision that is right for you.

PLEASE ADHERE STRICTLY TO ALL OF THE REQUIREMENTS ABOVE AS THEY ARE FOR THE SAFETY OF US ALL, AND DO NOT BE TEMPTED TO TAKE A DRIVING LESSON IF YOU FEEL THAT YOU COULD HAVE COME IN CONTACT WITH COVID-19.
